Coach Resource Page



USA Hockey is a leader across all youth sports in developing coaches through education, training and communication of the best practices. Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program take great pride in ensuring youth hockey coaches are prepared to create a safe and positive learning environment for all participants. 

To meet these standards, a few basic steps are required for coaches to become certified. The following requirements must be completed before participating in any team activities, unless stated otherwise


  • Register as a member of USA Hockey & Minnesota Hockey ($40 - USA Hockey, $1 - Minnesota Hockey). Click here to register.
  • Complete the background screening. Click here for more information. 
  • Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training (required every two years and cannot be added to a roster until completed). Click here for more information.
  • Complete a concussion training course and provide a coach concussion acknowledgement form to your association. Click here to download the form.
  • Complete the USA Hockey online age-specific module(s) for the age level(s) of play you are coaching. (Cost is $10 per module and only needs to be completed once per age level.) Click here to register for the modules.
  • Find, register and attend the required USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) certification clinic. Coaches have until December 31st to complete the appropriate CEP clinic. (Cost is $45 plus any lunch fees if applicable.) Click here for more information. 




Complete a concussion training course and provide a coach concussion acknowledgement form every 2 years. Below is a link to an online course. Please submit proof of completion to the Registrar. 

To be reimbursed this form must be completed and turned into the Ely Blue Line Treasurer. Please include all receipts with completed Reimbursement form.
